Twila's work is based upon several things: our every-day landscape of brilliant russet colored leaves littering the garden in fall, tightly buttoned green and brown buds of a magnolia tree opening in early spring to reveal virgin pink-hued blossoms or the carpet-like texture of mud flats as water recedes daily. When looking to work out a complex issue with a particular pattern or shape she relies on her collection of books on art history, the Arts and Crafts movement, textiles, birds, sewing stitches and handmade books.
