After much discussion we bought a little 1954 house in Walla Walla and moved in!
The house has a basement, main floor and upstairs for a total of 1200 square feet, not quite large enough for family and friends to visit nor adequate space for an art studio.
A flurry of emails and Janet Lucek, our designer, met us at the site and completed a draft of several options for the entire remodel.
Ikea plays a big part of all of our total house image makeover because they are the space, design and inspiration gurus so we made a weekend trip to Portland.
Last minute accomodations found us staying at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland near Jake's Crawfish and Seafood House. The Sentinal upgraded our standard King room to a suite! The room was sumptuous, romantic and beautifully decorated. Portland is a happening city and we never go there without planning where we are going to eat!
We looked at one of the many kitchens in the display section but we are going for a 50's midcentury modern so this cottage look with white won't work for the Monroe house.
The house was hidden by the large trees in both front and back yard so my brother Danny came over to Walla Walla for 5 days to cut trees and dig the excavation for the new addition.
Our friend Alex camped out in the house (and the occasional hotel) and worked like a dog to get the house in order.
